  • No. These are the same products, although golfers tend to prefer the version with a plain cuff, while cyclists tend to prefer the longer version with the thumbhole.

Performance and Fit

  • No. Crazy Arms are designed with a lightweight, "comfy-undie" style elastic at the top and a high-elastane fabric blend that ensures they stay in place during high-movement sports like golf, tennis, and cricket as long as you have the correct size for your arms.

  • Yes. Our Italian fabric is moisture-wicking and breathable. For an extra cooling effect, you can dampen the sleeves with water; the evaporation acts like "air conditioning for your arms” without compromising the UV protection.

  • Yes, having an extra level of protection before a scratch or insect gets to your skin does help.  However, because we choose a
lightweight fabric for comfort, it does mean that sharp thorns, or determined insects can get through. You can find out more here

Sun Sleeves and Kids

  • Yes. Crazy Arms started off as a kid’s product, created by 3 Aussie Dads who were fed up of the mess and battle with sunscreen with their school age children.  The fun patterns and colours are there to
    make sun protection fun.

  • We make four sizes for Kids, and have an age guide.

    X-Small 3-5
    year olds typical height 100cm - 115cm

    Small 5-8
    year olds typical height 115cm - 135cm,

    Medium 8-12
    year olds typical height 135cm - 150cm,

Kids Large / Adult Small 12-14 year olds typical height 150cm - 160cm, and smaller (under 5'2") adults

However, we do know that kids develop at different rates, so we are happy to provide size exchanges if required. You can find out more about sizing here.

  • Yes.  The fun patterns (for the younger kids) or the ‘professional’ look of arm sleeves for junior sports are a cool look.  Not every kids will take to them, especially the snug fit, and some will need more encouragement and role-modelling from parents.

  • Our Unicorns, Mermaids, Aliens, Rainbow and Camouflage patterns are all very popular for kids, along with the bright block colours that match school and sport uniforms.

  • Yes, many parents find Crazy Arms to be a much more comfortable and "kid-friendly" alternative to traditional long sleeves. You can read their comments here. When a child is recovering from a burn or skin graft, keeping the area protected from UV rays is vital to prevent permanent skin discolouration.

Because our sleeves are lightweight, stretchy, and breathable, children often find them more comfortable for 23-hour wear than a heavy top. Plus, the fun patterns can help a child feel like they are wearing a "cool" accessory rather than a medical bandage, which can make the long road to recovery just a little bit brighter.

Sports and Activities

  • Absolutely. Crazy Arms were designed with "active movement" in mind. The elastane content provides a snug, second-skin fit that won't interfere with your swing, bowling action, or follow-through. Because they are 100% breathable, you won't experience the "overheating" feeling common with heavier compression gear. Check out our cricket sleeves here

  • Yes, they are a favourite on the fairways. Many golfers prefer Crazy Arms over traditional long-sleeved shirts because:

    • Zero Restriction: They don't bunch at the elbow or pull across the shoulders during a drive.
    • Consistent Grip: They keep sweat (or sunscreen) from running down your arms onto your hands/glove.
    • Slip on and forget: Unlike sunscreen, there is no need to reapply mid round while you are focused on your game. And at the end of the round you can just slip them off and relax in shade of the clubhouse.

Check out our golf sleeves here

  • Definitely. Beyond UV protection, Crazy Arms provide a lightweight physical barrier against:

    • Scratches: From thorns, dry brush, or long grass.
    • Insects: They provide a layer of protection against midges and mosquitoes.
    • Grass Allergies: They help prevent the "itchy arm" reaction many people get when pruning or weeding.
  • They serve a different purpose. Standard cycling sleeves tend to be arm warmers provide thermal insulation, whereas Crazy Arms are "arm coolers." They are thinner and use moisture-wicking technology to move heat away from the body during spring / summer rides. Check out our cycling sleeves here.

  • Yes! "Window arm" is a real concern for professional drivers and commuters alike. Since car windows don't block all UVA rays, wearing a sleeve on your "outside" arm is an easy way to prevent long-term sun damage and age spots without having to apply greasy sunscreen before your commute. You can buy single or pairs of driving sleeves.

  • Absolutely. They are chlorine and salt-water resistant. They are popular with ocean swimmers as they provide a reliable physical barrier that won't wash off like sunscreen, making them a favourite both around the pool and for ocean swimmers and surfers.

UV and Sun Exposure Questions

Advice is general advice only. Please consult your medical practitioner for specific questions.

  • Yes. It is estimated that up to 90% of skin damage occurs from the sun.

The truly scary thing is what happens on a cellular level when burned. Sunburn or redness is simply the body’s defence mechanism and a way of protecting itself. Redness is a sign that UV rays have mutated keratinocytes: the skin cell’s DNA. Over time these mutated cells multiply, divide or compound and ultimately can develop into skin cancer. The key to avoiding this kind of skin damage is to prevent sunburn before it even starts.

  • Yes, The UV Index scale is an international, open-ended measurement used to forecast the risk of skin and eye damage from solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Ranging from low (1-2) to extreme (11-13), it helps determine necessary sun protection, with a level of 3 or higher indicating a need for sun protection.

You can download this app that will give you a UV forecast for your location anywhere in the world.

  • UV levels in Australia and New Zealand significantly higher - typically 7% to 15% higher -than at similar latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere. The 3 key reasons are:

Australia (and New Zealand) summers are spent closer to the sun. Fact. The Earth's eliptical orbit means that in the southern summer, the sun is at its closest point to the sun, whereas it is at its furthest for the northern summers.

Our depleted ozone layer. The ozone layer which absorbs the many of the harmful rays is more depleted over the southern hemisphere.

Cleaner, clearer skies in Australia, and New Zealand. This feels like good news, due to lower population density, fewer cities and heavy industry.  But it also means there are less particles to block UV rays.

You can find out the impact on skin cancer rates here

  • Yes, sunshine is important for Vitamin D production. The amount of time you should spend in the sun to get the requisite levels of Vitamin D varies according to three factors.

    • Where you live.
    • The time of year.
    • Your skin type.

However in Australia, for people who are able to live an active lifestyle, there is adequate sunshine, even in the winter months for Vitamin D production

  • UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) measures how much UV radiation penetrates a fabric. A rating of UPF 50+ is the highest possible rating, meaning the fabric blocks 98% of UVA and UVB rays.

  • No. SPF is a measurement for the projected protection given by sun screens, based on human testing. UPF is a measurement for clothing, based on laboratory testing. You can find out more here

Sustainability and the Environment

  • Yes. Our fabric is made from ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon made from ghost fishing nets and other nylon waste. Crazy Arms® packaging is all made from 100% recycled materials.

  • Wearing sun sleeves also reduces the amount of chemicals potentially absorbed into your body or washed into the environment from sunscreen lotions. That said, we acknowledge the important role that sunscreens do play in reducing sun burn and skin cancer risk, and we use and sell our preferred sunscreen brands which have a the lower health and environmental impact.

  • Yes.  As well as picking a fabric that is, in made in part from ghost fishing nets retrieved from the ocean, we also have a
long-standing relationship with the Healthy Seas organisation who do this recovery and educational work.  We make a $ donation to the Healthy Seas charity for every pair of Crazy Arms sold to help them keep up their great work.

Fabric Technology and Product Care

  • After much research, the Crazy Arms team chose a unique recycled premium nylon fabric, made from ECONYL®. You can read more here.

One of nylon's standout features is its ability to retain its shape, even after repeated stretching and washing. This durability makes it a long-lasting choice for activewear, ensuring your favourite pieces maintain their form and function over time. Additionally, nylon boasts a smooth, silky texture that feels luxurious against the skin, adding to the overall comfort factor.

  • Crazy Arms® are made from a smooth, cool, ultra-lightweight UPF 50+ fabric sourced from Italy. This fabric is made from ECONYL®, a premium regenerated nylon created from recycled "ghost" fishing nets and other nylon waste, helping to clean our
oceans while providing high-performance sun protection.

The premium fabric is also used by high-end fashion and swimwear designers.

  • Because the fabric is breathable, they do not require frequent washing. Use a cool, gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Avoid softeners, bleach, or tumble drying—simply dry them in the great outdoors.

  • With proper care (cool wash, line dry), a pair of Crazy Arms will retain its UPF 50+ rating and shape for several summers, making them more cost-effective than repetitive sunscreen purchases.

  • Our fabrics are "solution-dyed" and tested for high colourfastness. This means they are specifically engineered to resist fading from intense UV exposure and pool chlorine. The process is OEKO-TEX® certified. Likewise, the digitally-printed prints will stay vibrant season after season.

  • All synthetic fabrics can shed microfibers. To minimise this, we recommend using a washing bag. Our high-quality, long-filament Italian nylon is much more durable and less prone to shedding than cheaper polyester alternatives.
