Crazy Arms Cricket Sleeves offer a great alternative to a long sleeve shirt or sunscreen.

A day in the field is a long day in the sun, with maybe a drinks break on the hour but nowhere to hide.  Unless you wear a long sleeve shirt, bare arms are in for a lot of sun exposure.

Made from ARPANSA-tested UPF 50+ fabric, Crazy Arms block at least 98% of UVA and UVB. Crazy Arms mid-level compression means they fit like a second skin, and also provide muscle support over a sustained period. No flapping long sleeve shirts, no messy sunscreen, and no red arms at the end of a day on the oval.

Breathable, quick drying, and they work with whites or club colours.

Which cricket sleeve to buy

  • Men. The adult sleeve, in white, stone or in club colours.
  • Women. Sizes go by a bicep measurement, so take the measurement to ensure a perfect fit. Choose from Adult Small, Regular Fit and Relaxed Fit.
  • Junior. A smaller cut in white or stone, or in club colours. While bicep measurement is key, we provide a guide by height, with a rough age guide alongside.
  • White or stone. White is the traditional choice and stays looking cleanest on the field. Stone hides ground marks better over a season.
  • Club colours. Mid blue, dark blue, green, maroon, red, pink and stone, for clubs playing in coloured kit.
  • Two pair bundles. White or dark blue, both in adult sizes, for anyone who wants a spare pair in the kit bag rather than washing one pair between games.
  • For the whole team. 25% off for orders of 20 pairs or more. You can mix and match across colours and sizes, with club logo an optional extra. Details on the clubs page.

Sleeves against sunscreen, on a cricket day

Clothing is a more reliable and less messy solution than sunscreen, which has to be reapplied throughout the day to keep working. On a cricket day that is the problem: it goes on before play, it comes off with sweat and the first dive in the covers, and nobody reapplies it properly between overs. Spray-on lotions are the least reliable of the lot, because an even covering is hard to get and easy to miss, especially on the back of the arm. A sleeve goes on once and stays on.

We do still recommend zinc sunscreen on the face and a broad brim hat. Sleeves do the arms.

Fit, and what the compression does

Whether fielding, at the crease or bowling to secure that vital wicket, Crazy Arms mid-level compression means they fit like a second skin and provide muscle support over a sustained period, with good supportive feel for cricketers of all ages. A lightweight elastic band at the top holds the sleeve in place through the action.

Anti-graze

The durable fabric also offers good anti-graze protection for general fielding activity, subject to the level of impact and the nature of the ground.

Care

Machine wash and line dry. To keep whites white, the tips page has the detail.

Thumbhole or plain cuff

Both are the same UPF 50+ fabric. The choice comes down to whether you notice the thumbhole against a bat handle. The thumbhole sleeves are here.

  • The fabric we use is tested for its sun protection capabilities, and Crazy Arms also has the fabric tested separately with ARPANSA (the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency), in both block colours and patterns.

    What is a UPF rating?

A UPF rating shows how effective fabrics are at blocking out the sun’s rays and reducing a person’s UVR exposure. A UPF rating of 15 is considered to provide 'Minimum Protection', a rating of 30 provides 'Good Protection', and ratings of 50 and 50+ provide 'Excellent Protection'.

The fabric used across Crazy Arms products has exceeded the UPF 50+ benchmark for “excellent protection”, blocking out at least 98% of UVA and UVB rays.

  • Fabric

Our fabric is made from Econyl®, a regenerated nylon coming from ghost fishing nets and other nylon waste.

Our fabric partner, ECONYL® has developed an innovative and sustainable regeneration system. The yarn is made from regenerated Nylon 6 waste that is collected all over the world and sent to the ECONYL® waste treatment centre. The cleaned nylon waste is shredded, compacted, bagged and transported to The ECONYL® Depolymerization Plant, where it goes through a radically new purification process. It then goes through the ECONYL® Polymerization Plant, where polymerization transforms the regenerated raw material into Nylon 6 polymers. The Nylon 6 Polymers are then transformed into textile yarn. The ECONYL® yarn can be regenerated over and over for an infinite number of times without any loss in quality.

This recycled fabric costs a little more to produce, but when we tested it for its UV protection capabilities, coolness comfort and stretch, we were convinced it was perfect for Crazy Arms.

    Packaging

Crazy Arms™ packaging is lightweight, simple, fun, educational, easy to mail, and made from 100% recycled materials. To send out the Crazy Arms to our customers, we use either recycled paper envelopes, or shipping pouches made from corn starch, which will naturally degrade. We believe this is a much better alternative to the single-use plastic packaging used by other companies.
