The arm by the window cops the sun on every drive, from the school run to a long haul up the highway. Cancer Council Australia says car side windows let through much more UVA than the windscreen does. Our driving sleeves cover that arm in ARPANSA tested UPF 50+ fabric, which blocks at least 98% of UV, and the thumbhole takes the sleeve over the back of the hand on the wheel. Single sleeves are $23 in white or blue. Pairs are $44 in white, blue or orange, and the white also comes in two and three pair bundles.
Whether it is window down or window up, harmful UV rays can penetrate car windows, creating a risk of skin damage to uncovered arms. The UPF 50+ Sun Sleeve, is perfect for people who spend a lot of time at the wheel, with a thumbhole to keep the sleeve in place to cover the back of the hand. Cool, lightweight. Available as a single sleeve, or purchased as a pair.
When to wear
The UPF 50+ Sun Sleeve, created by Crazy Arms® for people who spend a lot of time at the wheel. Harmful UV rays can penetrate car windows, creating a risk of skin damage to the exposed arm.

- Regular or relaxed fit.
- Single sleeve or as a pair.
One sleeve or a pair? A single sleeve covers the window arm, which for an Australian driver is the right arm. That's the one in the sun through the side window, so one sleeve is often all you need. A pair makes sense if you share the driving, sit in the passenger seat as often as you drive, or keep them on when you get out of the car. Orange comes in pairs only.
Buying for more than one driver? The white two pair bundle is $75 and the three pair bundle is $105. The three pair bundle also ships free, as every order of $95 or more does.
Why the thumbhole? Every driving sleeve has one. It keeps the sleeve in place and brings the fabric over the back of the hand, the bit that sits on top of the steering wheel. Steering wheels are grubbier than they look, so if white sleeves sound like a lot of washing, blue or orange is the easy pick.
Getting the size right. Measure around your bicep with your arm straight, then check the size guide. Driving sleeves come in Regular and Relaxed fits. They should feel a little tight the first time and settle to snug after a wear or two. Free exchange of size or colour within 40 days. We cover the postage both ways.

Yes, some does. Cancer Council Australia's tinted windows fact sheet (published November 2017) says all car glass blocks most UVB, and a laminated windscreen blocks about 98% of UVA. Side and rear windows are usually tempered glass, which lets through substantially more UVA, with estimates as high as 79%. UV inside a car is generally much lower than out in full sun, and clear or tinted window film cuts it right down, but only while the windows are up.
-
Cover them. For people who spend long periods in a vehicle, Cancer Council Australia recommends a combination of sun protection, such as a long sleeved shirt with a collar, sunglasses and SPF 50 or higher sunscreen. A UPF 50+ sleeve covers the arm the way a long sleeve does on a hot day: on at the car door, off when you get out, and less sunscreen mess on the steering wheel.
-
Yes, they are packed and sold as a pair. The only exception is our "Driving Sleeve," which can also be purchased as a single item for those who only need protection for their "window arm."
-
Properly tested ones do. A sleeve is only as good as its fabric, so look for a UPF 50+ rating on fabric that has been tested. Our sleeves use ARPANSA tested UPF 50+ fabric, which blocks at least 98% of UV. (ARPANSA is the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency.) It covers what it covers: the arm, and with the thumbhole the back of the hand. Your face and neck still need a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
-
They do a different job. On the arm, a sleeve won't sweat off on a hot drive or need reapplying at the servo, and it's less mess than sunscreen on the car seat. Sunscreen still goes on your face, neck and anything the sleeve doesn't cover, with a hat and sunglasses alongside.
-
A cool, gentle machine wash with a mild detergent. No fabric softener, no bleach and no tumble dryer. Dry them outside.

The fabric we use is tested for its sun protection capabilities, and Crazy Arms also has the fabric tested separately with ARPANSA (the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency), in both block colours and patterns.
What is a UPF rating?
A UPF rating shows how effective fabrics are at blocking out the sun’s rays and reducing a person’s UVR exposure. A UPF rating of 15 is considered to provide 'Minimum Protection', a rating of 30 provides 'Good Protection', and ratings of 50 and 50+ provide 'Excellent Protection'.
The fabric used across Crazy Arms products has exceeded the UPF 50+ benchmark for “excellent protection”, blocking out at least 98% of UVA and UVB rays.

Fabric
We use a premium Italian fabric created with ECONYL®, a yarn regenerated from nylon waste including ghost fishing nets recovered from the ocean.
Our fabric partner, ECONYL® has developed an innovative and sustainable regeneration system. The yarn is made from regenerated Nylon 6 waste that is collected all over the world and sent to the ECONYL® waste treatment centre. The cleaned nylon waste is shredded, compacted, bagged and transported to The ECONYL® Depolymerization Plant, where it goes through a radically new purification process. It then goes through the ECONYL® Polymerization Plant, where polymerization transforms the regenerated raw material into Nylon 6 polymers. The Nylon 6 Polymers are then transformed into textile yarn. Aquafil, the maker, says ECONYL® regenerated nylon can be regenerated again and again without losing quality.
This premium fabric costs a little more, but when we tested it for its UV protection, comfort, coolness, and stretch, we were convinced it was perfect for Crazy Arms.
Packaging
Crazy Arms™ packaging is lightweight, simple, fun, educational, easy to mail, and made from 100% recycled materials. We send your order in a corn starch mailer. We believe this is a much better alternative to the single-use plastic packaging used by other companies.
